Star Wars Jedi: Survivor release date, pre-order and latest news (2023)

You can watch the official reveal trailer below:

Thanks to the intense and cinematic trailer above, we've got a nice new look at the game and we can't wait to dive in and spend time with BD-1 (who was the subject of a Book of Boba Fett Easter egg) and Cal again soon.

It's time once more to head into the 'dark times' period of the Star Wars canon, the same gap in which the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney Plus series exists, along with the more recent Andor.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is looking immense and if you can't wait to play it, read on for everything you need to know. Find details on its release date, pre-orders, gameplay, and story below.

What is the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor release date?

The Star Wars Jedi: Survivor release date is 17th March 2023, it has been revealed by EA.

After some speculation and rumours, this March release window was accidentally posted on the game's Steam page before being taken down. And then, at The Game Awards, it was made official.

Which consoles and platforms can play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2?

So far, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has only been confirmed to launch on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game will not get a PS4 or Xbox One release at launch, and nor will it come to Switch.

The original Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game launched on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, so some players will need to upgrade to new systems if they want to keep following Cal's story.

What is the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor story?

The official plot summary of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is as follows (thanks YouTube):

"Continue Cal’s Journey – No longer a Padawan, Cal has come into his own and grown into a powerful Jedi Knight. Carrying the memories and expectations of the Jedi Order with him, his crusade against the Empire has only become more perilous. The Dark Times are closing in - with enemies new and familiar surrounding him, Cal will need to decide how far he’s willing to go to save those closest to him."

The sequel is set five years after the events of the first game.

It's also worth noting that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order left a few plot threads dangling, the biggest of which was the unfinished duel between Cal Kestis and Darth Vader. Although Cal managed to escape their initial confrontation, you can bet that Vader will continue to hunt down our heroes from the first game. With the Holocron destroyed and Cal's dream of rebuilding the Jedi Order seeming to be put on the back burner, however, it's unclear what Cal's goal would be in a sequel.

With the Vader Immortal VR game, the Bad Batch animated series, the Cassian Andor show and the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series all taking place in this era of Star Wars - between the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy - it would be interesting to see whether Cal and his pals bump into any familiar faces in the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Impossible to see, the future is... but that doesn't mean we don't have any fan theories and predictions!

One particular theory stems from a Free Content Update last year, in which Respawn gave players a new outfit - you could now wear the Inquisitor threads that Cal donned during a brief vision in the first game. Although scary visions that don't come true are par for the course in Star Wars - remember Rey's vision of herself as a Sith in The Rise of Skywalker - this image of Cal in Dark Side garb does spark off some interesting ideas.

The first Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game saw Cal investigating old Jedi ruins, but could the sequel put him on a darker path? It would certainly be cool to explore historical Sith locations on planets like Korriban, which was a key location in the Knights of the Old Republic games. That's pure speculation on our part, but it would be one way to differentiate the Fallen Order sequel from its predecessor.

The game's star Cameron Monaghan recently spoke to ComingSoon.net and said on the sequel: “I think that there’s a lot more story to tell with Cal. Specifically, I would really like to explore telling Cal’s story over time, and seeing how this character transforms as he gets older and how his perspective changes and how the world around him really informs who he is. Cal’s story is very tragic and I see us really exploring the darkness of this character and his world.”

What could change in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay?

The combat in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has been upgraded compared to the original game. Cal can make the most of new Force powers and new lightsaber fighting techniques. Yes, this includes dual sabers, and yes, this is extremely cool.

A new grappling hook mechanic has been shown off in the gameplay trailer (see: top of the page) which can be used to reach new distances coupled with Cal's Force Dash ability.

Blasters have been confirmed to be in the game thanks to known pre-order bonus cosmetics, but we're yet to see the new shooting mechanic in action or if it's entirely cosmetic. In the latest trailer, we also saw Cal using the Force to take control of a Stormtrooper's blaster and make him turn on his own comrades. What fun!

Who would return in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor cast?

Considering which characters survived at the end of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, we'd hope to see the following people returning for the sequel: Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis, Debra Wilson as Cere, Daniel Roebuck as Greez, Ben Burtt as BD-1, Tina Ivlev as Nightsister Merrin, Scott Lawrence as Darth Vader, and maybe even Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera.

It'll be interesting to see whether the same crew of characters assembles on the Stinger Mantis in the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Alternatively, the franchise could follow the example of franchises like Mass Effect and force the player to recruit new companions instead of leaning on all the old ones. Again, that would be one way to mix things up.

Is there a trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?

With the news of the name of the game came our first Star Wars Jedi: Survivor teaser trailer. Here it is for you below!

In other news, two more Star Wars games are in the works at Respawn, and another one is coming from Ubisoft. Plus, Uncharted's Amy Hennig is developing another Star Wars game at her new studio, and Star Wars Hunters is coming to Switch at some point as well. Basically, it's a good time to be a gamer and a Star Wars fan.
